Use a Crosswalk

The morning dew is,

Easy to catch.

It was welcoming and refreshing,

Yet now it hurts.

You’re old enough now to be free,

Yet the fences buzz.

But, what’s out there,

For you?

Maybe the grass is greener over here,

Though your tummy hurts.

They said it would stop,

Yet the worms gnaw and chew,

Maybe you were too early.

Is there a purpose,

To your wings?

Shelter maybe,

From those who curse you.

Yet, they see through you,

They know you.

You satiate hunger,

Every part of you is built for it.

They know your end,

The clock hand ticks as it spins.

They let you fall,

A graceful glide.

You’re free to roam,

Soon you’ll come home.

But, how do you get up there again?

I’m sure you’ll know,

When the time comes.
